Optimal design for arch dam is one of the successful methods in application of hydraulic and hydropower engineering. Minimization of the concrete volume or, more generally, of total costs is pursued by optimizing the shape under a set of constraints. This requires defining a structural model, a set of shape parameters, the constraints under which optimization is to be achieved, the design external load(s), an objective function and an algorithmic procedure. many optimization methods already applied to arch dam shape optimization, these methods impose lots of disadvantages on optimal results at last. In this paper Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm (ABC) is presented and applied to Shape optimization of dams.
