چکیده:

The objective of this research was developing a model of microbial fuel cell based on two-step anaerobic digestion (Fermentation and methanogenesis). Also electricity generation was simulated by conductionbased approach. Model equations were derived from a combination of three different models and advantages of these models are used in the model which is presented in this study. In addition, both liquid bulk and biofilm mass balance are presented in this model. Simulation results were validated by dairy wastewater as the substrate which shows excellent conformity. The current output and the relationship between current and voltage is revealed in the current evolution and polarization curves. Validation results show that the model is capable to predict overshoot phenomenon that coincide with experimental results. Some other abilities of presented model is the prediction of acetoclastic methanogenic and electricigenic microorganisms volume fraction distribution in the biofilm, biofilm thickness, effect of external resistance and wastewater concentration on the microbial fuel cell performance
