(Poly methylmethacrylatestaged co-butylacrylate)-montmorillonite nanocomposites were prepared via a two emulsion polymerization method using an anionic surfactant, dodecylbenzenesulfonicacid sodium salt (DBS- Na). Film thickness in coatings can have a big impact on cost and quality and its measurement is a routine event for all coaters. Mechanical and physical properties of the specimens were also studied and it was shown that the effect of increasing MMT-Na+ content is more obvious in higher MMA content in polymer matrix. It is shown that the viscosity and dry film thickness (DFT) of samples are almost in linear relation with each other. XRD and TEM tests were also used for investigation of the morphology and nanoclay dispersion in polymeric matrix. The results indicate that exfoliated structure can be obtained by in-situ emulsion polymerization even at 3wt% of nanoclay content.
