In this study, we prepared functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by a chemical protocol and then investigated the effect of sonication on morphology and also physical properties of MWNTs. The resulting functionalized nanotubes were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy and electrochemical measurements. It was found that sonication can practically cut the functionalized MWNTs, which produce them with the shortened nanotubes; this is an important parameter for application in array biosensor. Considering that carbon nanotube has remarkable physical, and chemical properties, it can be applied to various nanometer-sized carbon nanotube devices including carbon nanotube-based sensors for gases and a variety of bio(molecules).
